Crowdfunding as the trojan horse of the commons

Crowdfunding as the trojan horse of the commons | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Crowdfunding implies a whole new paradigm of the network and Internet possibilities to create new socioeconomic models. Summarizing  its recent history, it appeared first as sporadic cases (between the nineties and the new century) with calls for financial support from music band fans and promoters of films, and it  began to replicate in a little over two years with more and more platforms. Project of the Day: Banco Palmas in Brazil

Project of the Day: Banco Palmas in Brazil | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The Banco Palmas in the Palmeira precinct of Fortaleza/Brazil is a bank that emits a local currency. The bank offers credits in the local currency (interest-free) and in Brazil’s national currency (interest rate 2%). For a fee of 1%, amounts in local currency can be swapped with the national currency (ratio 2:1). Stemming from a grassroots movement, the Banco Palmas operates a school (Palmatech) that imparts the concept of the bank to the local citizens and offers education and training.
